Makarska is a coastal town, situated under the mountain Biokovo, just a spit and a throw away from Split and Dubrovnik, making it easy to reach not only via road but also via airplane. Airport in Split is about 1h drive away. During the summer many tourists use to their advantage the location of Makarska, using it as a jumping point for their day excursions to Split, Dubrovnik, Medjugorje, as well as rafting on River Cetina which is one of cleanest and most pristine rivers in Croatia, as well as trips on excursion boats to Korcula a birth place of Marko Polo as well as islands Brac and Hvar.
Makarska is well known for its unforgettable sunsets that many spend either on the beach or on the promenade with beautiful palms, where many sailing tourist boats are situated. In the summer in the town centre there are nightly concerts as well as cultural activities. It offers many sports activities to tourists such as parasailing, jet-ski, scenic flights, paragliding, scuba diving, snorkelling, hiking, mountaineering, swimming and many others. Makarska is also excellent romantic getaway where one can hide away on small private beaches just 10 minute walk away from the main beach, away from all the crowds. The remote beaches are also reachable with the small tourist train that will transport you there for small fee. Makarska is known for amazing restaurants with great service. Makarska is old historic town, mentioned in Roman documents in 5th century. Throughout the history it has changed a number of rulers including Romans, Austria-Hungarian, French, and Italian that have left a strong mark on mentality and look and feel of town and its people.
The water is pristine and crystal clear. Showers and changing utilities are available on most of the beaches. A lot of nearby cafes are lining the walkway near the beach so one can always have a quick meal, drink or coffee. There are also facilities for children entertainment available including a number of playgrounds, trampolines, water slides, jumping castles and many more while you have rest in nearby cafes. You can enjoy shopping as well at the stands near the town centre located just off the main beach. Many clothes, beach accessories, souvenirs are available there at affordable price. There are a number of Catholic churches in the town including St Marks church in town centre. Above town is mountain Biokovo that is also a nature reserve. It can be reached via car, organised tour bus and for those daring there are a number of trails one can take hiking all the way to the top. There are a number of mountaineering homes at the top where one can have a relaxing refreshing drink or stay over night. The highest peak is Sveti Jure (St George) at 1762m height.

Makarska throughout the world is not only known for its spectacular nature, unique micro-climate and beaches, but also for its tourist offer, the warm welcome and embrace it provides to tourists from all over the world, multilingual culture, and cultural offers. Makarska is in winter small quiet town, however June - September it becomes a centre of tourist, sport and cultural activities for the region.
Town is surrounded by the pine trees, providing the much needed shade on pebble beaches. Main town beaches have life guard service provided, as well fly blue tourist flag that is given to best beaches in Croatia. Water temperature in the summer is about 24-28C which is just perfect for that summer vacation.
